To Speed or Not To Speed

Okay so as I thought about some of the general practices we have in place that make no sense but still remain in place, many things came to mind such as why does the work day start at 8am, why is espn offered on cable tv and not the base tv channels, or why can hotels offer free internet but airplanes can't. But we'll save those for future conversations, today I'm talking about Speeding and why we still charge people for doing it.

So I understand why we need to regulate speeding on highways for the common good of the general population. However, the tactics used to "police" speeding are questionable. We simply give someone a fee for speeding based arbitraly on what speed the man thinks they were going. Now keeping track of speeding occurences to limit their driving rights based on consistent disregard of the law makes sense to me. If someone doesn't learn from their past mistakes and continues to make mistakes they deserve the punishment. However, I feel that when someone makes a slight misjudgement and just so happens to get caught should they really be forced to pay anywhere from $150 - $300 depending on where you live in the country. Now have we seen this fee based approach really stop people from speeding? No because the system is designed to give out a minimum number of tickets each month regardless of how many people are speeding. And in a time where most people are driving less because of rising economic prices, the chances of receiving one of these pre-projected tickets is even higher when we get out on the roads. All of this to say, I'm PISSED that I got a ticket last weekend...Stay tuned for posts on other things that don't make sense to me.
